Chapter one (September 16th 2007, moon - full)
It was a cold, septembers evening and the wind was howling and rattling the windows in their frames. Even the best insulated of houses found it hard to keep in as little heat they attained from radiators and roaring fires. However, this was not the worst off it. BBC weather reports predicted extreme rains and floods in some locations in the UK. None the less, nothing could stop Ray Acula (a upcoming guitarist from Liverpool) from playing in a gig located about one hour away in manchester.
Ray was taller than average, with brown hair and stunning green eyes. He was also considered to be quite handsome, but he was rarely ever seen anywhere other than at school, home or of course, with his band Exorcists Nightmare. Ray sat by the mirror, carefully parting his hair over the side off his face, finally gelling it at the top to make it spikey. To Alternative rock bands such as the Exorcists Nightmare, image was important. They had to look "the part" otherwise it would be hard to gain the publics attention. As for this band, they had the image that was admired by teens all around (except for the kids who listened to rap and such. To them Exorcists Nightmare was a bit of a joke). Ray carefully put on a black jacket with Lost Prophets embroided on the back, slipped on his black jeans and tied his red convese with care, as so not to smudge the signatures of his fellow band members on the tip of his right shoe.
IM THE NEW CANCER, NEVER LOOKED BETTER , YOU CANT STAND IT!
Ray couldn't help but to sing in with Brendon Urie's vocals, due to both the facts that this was one amazing song (Theres a good reason these tables are numbered, honey. You just haven't thought of it yet - P!ATD) and also, the lyrics were also quite true to him. His name as the guitarist in Exorcists Nightmare was spreading fast like an deseise (or cancer), and true, many people could not stand it... (Namely his brother Seth, whom has been trying to get a record deal for about 5 years now)
Still, back to the final touches in appearence. Trying to avoid his eye, Ray applied his black eyeliner heavilly, and started to draw (with the eyeliner) vampire bats down the cheek that was not covered by his fringe. Ray smiled as he looked in the mirror.
'For gods sake kid! Keep the music down!' It came from downstairs, and usually it would be hard to identify whom the voice belonged to, due to the high volume levels of the music. But, seeing as it was only Ray and his mother in the house, he had no reason in which not to obey the command.
"Alright, alright!" Ray shouted back, struggling to get to his CD player due to the ammount of scrunched up paper that littered the floor. The papers were old sheets off bad lyrics that Ray simply couldn't be bothered to dispose of neatly. He did most of his work in his room, because along with the job of being the main guitarist, he also wrote the lyrics and did even the backup vocals. He also addressed the audience everytime that the Exorcists Nightmare did a gig. Not that the other band members were shy, Ray just was the most confident. Ray finally managed to get to his CD player and turned the music down, but only enough so you couldn't hear the going-ons upstairs. His mother didn't know that Ray was travelling to Manchester to play this evening. In fact, he hadn't even asked her and waited for her to answer. So he was going to have to do this thing in stealth. Ray locked his bedroom door from the inside, and pulled his guitar strap over his shoulder, grabber a messenger bag with pins of his favourite bands along the strap and stuffed a small folder in there. Entitled - Lyrics. Tonight, Ray planned to show to the public for the first time his song Dance if you want a gentleman tonight. Ray paused. He had all his belongings, the gig was about to start in about an hour, he then stared around his room at the various bands on the posters that littered his wall.
"Hey guys" he smiled, talking to the posters that would never give a answer "wish me luck, Okay?"
Little did Ray know, tonight was the to be the most unluckiest night of his life.
Ray climbed out of his bedroom window, being carefull to not scratch his guitar, which he considered to be his most valuable of items. He got it from his brother when he was about thirteen
around 3 years ago years ago (Ray is currently 16). The guitar was black and white checkered, and was eletric. Thats how he had first met Louise, the bass player in Exorcists Nightmare. It all began when Ray was sitting there playing in the very room he just left, with his bare fingers. Eventually after about 3 hours of endless playing (and when i say endless, i mean it. No toilet breaks or anything!) his fingers started to bleed. He marked his bloodied finger print on a chart on his wall, displaying the days he had practiced. He had set a record of 3 days of red marks. And thats when Louise made her first appearence looking through Rays bedroom window.
"I was just passing by and I couldn't help but to notice how out of tune you were! I see now thats probally because your fingers are bleeding... You might want to try a pick, y'know. I have plenty at home"
Ray just stared at the girl in his window with both amazment that she managed to climb up to his window, and quite embarrased because she had commented on his bad guitar playing, finally he managed to pluck up the courage to respond.
"You play the guitar too?" he said a bit sheepishly
"Ahaaaa" Louise smiled. "I play the Bass, along with my freind Deren, who does the drums. So, do you want the guitar pick or not?"
Ray smiled "Erm, yeh, sure. Thanks! Are you in a band?"
Louise laughed "No not really, we're short of vocals and a electric guitar... Unless..."
Rays eyes squinted "what?"
Louise grinned "Well, I suppose with a bit more practice you could be a good guitarist! So, why dont you become our third member?"
Ray didn't hesitate, and said yes straight away. Now 3 years later, Rays guitar skills had improved and plus they had a lead singer (Ashes). But the most amazing thing is, just after 3 years, Louise had matured and flowered alot. Her blue eyes and blonde hair brung a new appeal that some bands didn't have. The appeal of a naturally beatifull girl. Not the heavy eyemake-up people you usually get...
Ray took the bus too Manchester, praying that it would go faster so he wouldn't be late, and maybe even let down the band.
The bus journey had been quite eventfull. A handfull of chavs had gotten on the bus at one point, and then been thrown off because they had started to get drunk and were smashing up the chairs. A young child had started crying due to Rays eyeliner, claming it was "scary". A old woman had fallen over on him, and a dog had forced him to retreat to standing on his chair because it had begun to turn vicious for some reason. Finally he made it to the street that the band was playing in, Anoran Drive. Outside one of the clubs, he saw his fellow band members waiting patiently. When they saw Ray, they immediately started shouting and cheering. Except for Deren, who being a bit off a bad boy, just kept leaning against the wall and nodded.
"Hey Dude!" Ashes shouted "What took you so long?"
Ashes was taller then Ray (and everyone thought that Ray was the tallest one in their street!) with brown eyes and blond hair that parted to the left side of his head. It didn't cover his face, but still, it stuck out in many odd angles. Today he was wearing a red blouse and a black tanktop, with black formal trousers and black shoes. His eyeliner was just, simply, a red line. Ashes was more of a sophisticated type, so dressed formally to gigs. Deren's dress sense was, quite, unique. His wardrobe was full of different things. But as of today, he was wearing his thick black rimmed glasses, a red hooded jacket, underneath was a black shirt and for trousers he was wearing some black chords, with checked vans. His hair was black and shoulder length. He was actually quite "cute" when he wasn't in one of these mood swings. When Deren was in a mood, boy, was he narky. And then we have Louise. She was wearing a red shirt, with a black skirt and red leggings, and for footwear wore simply some black high heels. It was true, Exorcists Nightmare wore alot of Black and red, and no one really knew why... It was just... a trend.
Suddenly, a man in a black suit came out of the club doorway. He was quite young, but didn't look like the type of client the band were used too. In fact, this man looked like he despised rock and everything it stood for, maybe this was because he had McFly badges all over his Yellow tie... On his jacket, he had a badge that read - Mr Doonfeild - Manager of the Funky club. He looked at Exorcists Nightmare with a puzzled look on his face.
"Are you The Jumps?" he said, quite nervously. This bands image was not what he had in mind for a pop group. The band was quite nervous at this point, this was obviously not a place where Rock acts played often... After about one minute of awkward silence, another man (who was slightly obese) in a red suit emerged from the club doors. He had obviously been attacked by someone, because he was wet and the smell of strong achohol was in the air. Shards of glass were hanging out of the mans hair, which was long and untamed. He also had a badge. This one read - Mr Johnson - Co-Manager of the Funky Club.
"Mr...mr Doonfeild..." panted Mr Johnson, who was quite red now "will you please escort The Jumps to the stage now please? The audience is getting quite restless... as you can see" He pointed out the glass in his hair, and a trickle off blood ran down his cheek.
"Erm... Excuse me sir, but we're not The Jumps, we're a band named the Exorcists Nightmare" said Louise quietly.
"I suppose you'll have to do then..." Mr. Doonfeild sighed. "though don't expect us to love you..."
Ray laughed "As long as you dont expect us to like you"
Trying to convince Deren too play that night was hard. He kept on saying how "chavs wouldn't appreciate us" and "who actually organised this gig anyway?". But eventually, he gave in because Ray threatened to snap his drumstick that was signed by Gerard way (who was forced to sign it, because when Deren went to MCR's gig, and all Deren did afterwards was stalk Gerard because he had won a VIP pass). Exorxcists Nightmare made their way onto stage, which was in a large room with circular wooden tables all around, and a bar at the back. Ashes grinned nervously, and introduced the band to the room. At this point, there was whispering and dirty looks everywhere. Eventually, Ray made his way to the front of the stage, with both confidence and slight anxiety, took the microphone, and said:
"We are Exorcists Nightmare, I know we maybe YOUR nightmare, so if you don't like our kind off music, a suggest you leave now"
About three dozen people left at this point, and the people who actually stayed were ether grinning evilly or, to Rays upmost pleasure, siting and listening contently. One man was sitting there so still, but he was smiling. He had short brown hair, and was wearing a red suit and black undershirt. He seemed... curious.
"Right then" Ray smiled "for all those who are listening to us, we thank you. And this is our first song this evening. And we call it Dance if you want a gentleman tonight!"
When Ray read out the title, the man in the audience with the red suit's smile suddenly faded. Hadn't he made a song entitled that? Nah. Probally just a bizarre coincidence... No. It was much more than that... because as the music started playing, the mans heart sank...
...Oh dance... just dance
if you want a gentleman tonight...
because no dude can resist even if he fights...
so dance if you want.a.gentleman tonight!...
He had wrote this...
He was sure of it!
"Stop the music!" He called "standing on his table "That song belongs to me!!!"
The crowd gasped. Ray paused, grinned nervously and let out a cry off "what?"
The man snarled "You know what I said, and you know what i mean! You stole that song from me!"
At this point Deren was circling his finger by the side of his head, to suggest the man was cookoo. Louise was staring around the room, nervously. Ashes was just plain and expressionless. And Ray... Ray looked like he had been smacked in the face.
"...I really, dont know, what you're talking about"
The man was getting more and more frustrated. His face was becoming a shade of crimson. It was obvious he wasn't making this up. But Ray knew he had made this song... He remembered why he made it aswell. After the school ball, four months ago... one terrible, terrible night.
No. He had this to handle right now, there was no point looking back at past events. Maybe later. It was time to deal with this illusional mad dude at the moment.
"Honestly. Im being sincere, I made this song" Ray said, a bit off awkwardness in his voice. It was clear the youth wasn't lying. But if the man wasn't neither... Urgh. One of them was lying - or just plain illusional. Either way, someone had to convince the other that they weren't lying... or was the situation going to get physical? The man jumped off his table and marched to stage, and pulled a knife out off his pocket. The crowd screamed and departed. This whole thing was getting a bit out of hand if someone was armed with a knife. On stage, the man grabbed ray at the back and pulled the knife too his throat. Ray strugled, trying to pull the man off him.
"What the hell?!" He shouted
The man sneered "Now, my boy. Just admit that you stole my song, and ill remove this knife from your throat. Fail to co-operate, and my hand might just slip"
At this point, Ray was red in the face, and sweating. He couldn't say anything to get himself free, because the man was crushing his neck and vocal chords... he was running out of air. Eventually, Deren viciouslu poked the man in the back with his drumstick. The man yelled, and let Ray go. Now that he could finally breath...
"SECURITY! SECURITY! THERE'S A MAD PSYCO-DUDE WITH A KNIFE RUNNING AROUND! S-E-C-U-R-I-T-Y!"
Suddenly, two bouncers came through the door and both grabbed the man by the arms. Pulling him out off the stage. The man thrashed around, but it were no use. The bouncers had complete control over him.
"Ill get you yet, kid. I will get you!" The man snarled as he was led out of the door. The band just stood there, saying nothing. It was Deren who finally broke the silence.
"I SAID this was a bad idea! But did any of you people listen? NO! You were like - Oh, everythings going to be Ok Deren... Dont exaggerate... WHAT.A.LOAD.OF..."
"For gods sake!" Ashes interrupted "You mean to tell me that you knew that there was going to be a mad psycopath in the audience who treatened Ray with a knife? DID YOU KNOW?! WELL IF YOU DID, PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOU GOT YOUR AWESOME ABILLITY! BECAUSE IT WOULD REALLY HELP IF I KNEW WHETHER LATER ON IN LIFE, YOU BECOME EVEN MORE STUPID AND TRY AND KILL US ALL! MAYBE IF I KNOW I CAN GET A NEW DRUMMER!!!"
There was a pause. And Deren sighed "Sorry Ash.."
"No...no. Im sorry." Ashes said, head low "I think we all should go now... It has been one bad night... hasn't it?"
Ray nodded. But in his head, he knew that it hadn't been the worst time in his life...
No. That was soon to come. His life was about to be turned round, just because of this one night gig... Trust me - you dont want to miss it!
